What happens to pets during the storm?

Pets are part of the family. No one whats to abandon them in case of an evacuation. Among the many lessons we learned from Katrina was that pets cannot fend for themselves during a hurricane.

You can download a free brochure on Preparing Your Pets for Emergencies Makes Sense. Having a plan in place makes sense.

My daughter went through Katrina (well, actually she evacuated to Texas) and one of her constant worries was for her cat. When she left the cat was nowhere to be found and she had no real choice about leaving. Fortunately she was living in a part of New Orleans that didn't get flooded and also fortunately she had neighbors who stayed in their house and took care of her cat. But she didn't know all this until over a week after Katrina hit and worried constantly. This is minor compared to what other people went through, absolutely. But if you love your animals you do owe them an emergency plan.
